.) The number of outdated apartment complexes in the city of Gainesville, specifically on 20th avenue - This is due to lack of apartment growth over the past 5-7 years
.) The lack of quality in computer and phone chargers - Companies are cutting costs in this area to save money in the long run
.) Protein Shaker Bottles are awful at blending together water and protein powder without creating clumps - This is due to the design and effectiveness of the metal ball located inside each bottle
.) The thin insole placed in shoes these days - Companies are trying to cut costs and minimize the amount of product being put in each and every shoe
.) Slow assembly line process at Chipotles' across America - This is due to the lack of staffing to try and minimize labor costs
.) Awful battery life in the iPhone 6 - Apple hasn't created an effective battery to pair with their upgraded features
.) The lack of printing quality at the student center located in Reitz Union - They try and save money wherever possible, by providing the cheapest printing services
.) Constant dropped calls, when inside large structures - The amount of material used to make buildings causes the signal to be come obstructed
.) When the rubber shoe bottom and shoe material begin to split - This is due to the lack of quality materials used in shoe making
.) The bottom edges of my iPhone have become worn down - This is because Apple has changed the metal they use and it doesn't last long
.) The penny(costs more money to make a penny, than it is actually worth) - The federal reserve wants to keep it in circulation because it is such an important part of the American culture
.) When earbuds stop working in one of the ears - This is also due to the lack of quality that is used in producing Apple's products
.) Beer foam when tapping from a keg - Because of the air inside the keg itself and people constantly pumping it, it tends to cause a lot of foam
.) The leaking of personal water bottles at the very opening - The bottles I've used don't hold a seal very well at all. This is likely due to the cheap parts they are using to manufacture each bottle.
.) Buttons easily ripping off dress shirts - The time spent sewing each button has decreased dramatically, causing the buttons to become lose very easily.
.) Shirts shrinking very easily - Most shirts consist of cotton, and cotton tends to shrink very easily when heated
.) Gum losing it's flavor very quickly - Gum companies tend to cut costs by providing less ingredients in every piece, which would cause you to purchase more of their product over time
.) Shoelace plastic coating at the very tip - This plastic tears very easily. It is likely caused by the cheap materials used in producing the lace
.) Car leather tearing in the hot Florida sun/heat - Leather tends to stretch when heated, and over time it will cause it to tear
.) Toothpaste that is stuck at the very bottom of the tube - Due to the way the tube is shaped and the consistency of toothpaste
When I first read this assignment, I found it very challenging. Once I had the idea of what I was searching for, it actually became very easy to me. I would travel down archer road and stop in several stores such as Target, Publix and Best Buy, and instantly "bugs" began to appear everywhere. It's amazing to me how many products deficiencies are caused by lack of quality materials and/or production. This assignment has already changed me into thinking about the world in a more "cause and effect" way. I'm now beginning to search for problems, find out what causes them and find out what changes could effect the product in a more positive way.
Hi Drew!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your “Bug List.” Although we did not write about the same ones, there were many items on the list that aggravate me, too. The battery life of an iPhone 6 is ridiculous and my own phone dies at 20% even though it did not do that before. I feel Apple fails to provide a solution to the issue so you have to pay for a new replacement battery earlier than expected. I think the issue with either the right or left earbud not working has happened to me on several occasions. When I was writing my own list I did not take that into consideration. Even when you said the comment about the gum and its loss of flavor, I could easily relate to that problem because I have had packets of gum that finish quickly because I go back into my bag to get another strip more times in a single day than I should. The assignment is challenging. It is not as easy as I had expected but I think if I were to walk out and really think about it, they would appear quickly.

Hi Drew,
ReplyDeleteThis is a good bug list. Some of the are specific to Gainesville, and I live in Brandon, but the problems you described seem to carry over well. In particular your number 1, out dated apartments carry over well as the place i live hasn't had a renovation in well over a decade. Some of the other items on your list tended to deal with the low build quality of modern electronics, specifically the iPhone. While I do not own an iPhone I can certainly agree with your sentiments.
